At the end of August, Invista joined hands with domestic enterprises to increase the production capacity of Nylon 66 by 400000 tons. It can be seen that PA66 capacity expansion has been significantly accelerated. Securities Times pointed out that the domestic PA66 industry will usher in a window opportunity period of rapid development. It is reported that adiponitrile is the core raw material for the production of nylon 66 and a key link in the industrial chain of polyamide and special polyurethane. At the end of July, the 200000 t/a adiponitrile unit of ChemChina successfully completed the whole process, successfully started up and produced superior adiponitrile products, which indicates that the adiponitrile neck problem is expected to become a history, filling the domestic technology and industry gap, complementing the short board of the industrial chain, and is of great significance for promoting the long-term, safe and healthy development of China's high-end polyamide industry. The nylon 66 industrial chain is expected to welcome rapid expansion following the localization of raw materials, drive the overall price center of the industrial chain to move down with new supply, and drive the rapid growth of downstream demand. According to the industry, the technical breakthrough of adipic nitrile, the raw material of nylon 66 in China, will be similar to the localization process of caprolactam, the main raw material of Nylon 6 more than 10 years ago, and is expected to usher in rapid expansion of consumption after localization. In the past, caprolactam has been largely imported, which has become a major bottleneck restricting the development of nylon 6 in China. With the localization of caprolactam production technology, the domestic production capacity and apparent consumption of caprolactam and nylon 6 have increased rapidly in the past decade. The comprehensive performance of nylon 66 is better than that of nylon 6. However, adiponitrile has not been localized before, with high cost and no guarantee of supply. In the past five years, the demand has been hovering between 400000 tons and 500000 tons per year. In 2020, the apparent consumption of nylon 66 will be about 590000 tons, which is less than 15% of nylon 6. With the arrival of localization, the consumption demand of adiponitrile is expected to replicate the development path of caprolactam and increase rapidly in the future.
