At the beginning of the twentieth century, it was considered an inconceivable thing for the corporate world to engage in basic scientific research. In 1926, DuPont, the largest industrial company in the United States, out of interest in basic science, suggested that the company conduct basic research to discover new scientific facts. In 1927, the company decided to pay a research fee of $250,000 a year and began hiring chemical researchers. By 1928, DuPont had established the Institute for Basic Chemistry. Wallace H. Carothers, aged 32 (1896-1896) 1937) Ph.D. hired as head of the Department of Mechanochemistry.
Carothers, American organic chemist. Born on April 27, 1896 in Wilmington, Iowa, USA. Died April 29, 1937 in Philadelphia, USA. After earning his doctorate at the University of Illinois in 1924, he taught and researched organic chemistry at that university and at Harvard. In 1928, he applied to do research in organic chemistry at the DuPont laboratory in Wilmington. He presided over a series of studies on the use of polymerization methods to obtain high molecular weight substances. In 1935, polymers were prepared from adipic acid and hexamethylenediamine. Since both components contained 6 carbon atoms, they were called Polyamide Nylon 66 at the time. He then melted the polymer and extruded it through an injection needle and stretched it under tension, calling it a fiber. This fiber is Nylon 66 Material, which was named nylon after industrialization in 1939. It is the earliest synthetic fiber variety to achieve industrialization.
